Maria Diamond Receives the AAJ 2026 Leonard M. Ring Champion of Justice Award

On July 28, at the American Association for Justice 2026 Annual Convention in Chicago, Maria S. Diamond of Diamond-Massong PLLC was awarded the 2026 Leonard M. Ring Champion of Justice Award.

In announcing this citation, AAJ noted Maria was honored for her more than four decades of service in the fight for justice. "From landmark medical malpractice and consumer protection cases to standing up for the most vulnerable, Maria Diamond has never lost sight of the people behind each case. Maria has devoted countless hours to strengthening our Association and advancing the cause of civil justice. Whether in the courtroom, in our leadership, or mentoring the next generation of trial lawyers, Maria has exemplified what it means to be a true Champion of Justice. Her career stands as a testament to her commitment to justice and her unwavering dedication to protecting the rights of injured individuals."

The Leonard M. Ring Champion of Justice Award recognizes an AAJ member of at least 10 years who exemplifies outstanding integrity and overall character and has demonstrated Leonard M. Ring's devotion to human and civil rights. Recipients of this award are selected by their peers. AAJ's Stalwarts Committee recommends prospective honorees to the AAJ Executive Committee, which votes on the winner.

In accepting the award Maria said, "What strikes me most about Leonard Ring's legacy is not the extraordinary cases he handled — such as the Tylenol litigation and environmental battles to protect Lake Michigan — it's the way he conducted himself and the example he set. He's been described as courageous, humble, and absolutely devoted to the cause of justice. He was a champion of justice who never stopped fighting against the Goliaths of his time. To receive an award associated with his name is both a privilege and a responsibility."

In Washington State, Maria has handled a wide range of complex cases involving medical negligence, defective drugs and medical devices, asbestos exposure, maritime injuries, nursing home abuse and neglect, and motor vehicle collisions. In addition to successfully representing clients in numerous medical malpractice cases, Maria served as lead attorney in two landmark consumer insurance cases that helped strengthen protections for Washington State residents.

AAJ also noted Maria's exceptional leadership within the Washington State trial bar. She is a past president of the Washington State Association for Justice, a member of AAJ's Board of Governors for 24 years, a trustee on the AAJ PAC Board since 2006, a past chair of the Convention Planning Committee (of which she has been a member since 2008), past chair of the Women Trial Lawyers Caucus, and has served on AAJ's Executive Committee. She also served on the Washington State Jury Commission, helping implement reforms that improved jury trials — including allowing jurors to take notes and ask questions during proceedings.

Diamond~Massong Named a 2026 Tier One Personal Injury Litigation-Plaintiffs Law Firm for Seattle Metro Area

For over 8 years, Diamond~Massong has been named a 2026 Tier One Personal Injury Litigation-Plaintiffs Law Firm in the Seattle metropolitan area as part of the “Best Law Firms” list.

To be eligible for this ranking, a law firm must have at least one attorney who is currently recognized as a Best Lawyer in the “Personal Injury Litigation-Plaintiffs” category within their metropolitan area. Maria Diamond has been named a Best Lawyer in this category for 13 years.

“Best Law Firms” rankings are based on a rigorous evaluation process that includes collecting client and lawyer evaluations; peer reviews from leading attorneys in the same practice field; and reviews of additional information provided by law firms as part of the formal submission process. These evaluations are combined into an overall score for each firm.
