Testosterone Treatments Linked to Heart Attacks, Clots, and Strokes
Men who take testosterone drugs are at increased risk of suffering a heart attack, stroke, or blood clots. Recent research has shown that men with heart problems who take low testosterone (“Low T") treatments are 30 percent more likely to suffer a stroke, heart attack, or death compared to healthy men who do not take the supplements.
Selling low testosterone is big business. Aggressive marketing has sent millions of men to their doctors demanding treatment for their mood swings, lack of vigor, or decreased sex drive. The number of men aged 40 and older treated for Low T jumped more than 300 percent from 2001 to 2011, and prescription sales for testosterone reached $1.6 billion in 2011.
Low T therapy is often given as a gel, patch, or injection and may include the following products:
- AndroGel
- Androderm
- Axiron
- Bio-T-Gel
- Fortesta
- Striant
- Testim
If you or a loved one has suffered a heart attack, stroke, or blood clots while using Low T drugs, Diamond~Massong may be able to help.
